today was the last day of the co's visit, my husband stayed home from the meeting and we painted the house together which was good, but he wanted to tie into the meeting, i was ok with it as it allows me to point out the stupid parts of this religion.
there were many things that made no sense but one that truly stuck out.. in his talk the co went on about how there are so many things satan uses to distract us from jehovah and one of them was fear of our future and how some work all their lives for retirement, many at jobs they hate.
people do not enjoy the here and now all out of fear for what will happen when they grow old.

The crazy thing about being a witness is that you can't work for nice things now. Can't rejoice and celebrate the beauty of life as it is in "this system".
But all of their dreams of the New System are about the things they could have NOW, if only they weren't in a cult.

I know several JW families who have adopted and fostered children. If you ignore the religion, they do as well as the next family. I think it depends on the individual family and child. As we know, not all witnesses are "on it" so to speak, so the damage to the child would be minimal (from a cult perspective).
P.S. There was actually an article (Awake! I think) years ago that featured about 3 or 4 witness families and their adoptions. I'll have to look up the reference. Adoption was cast in a favorable light.

i have not been in such a setting for along time so it was sort of surreal.. so this one older jw woman started to talk about her neighbors and their little girls and how much she liked them.
she said they were a nice family, etc, that they watch each other homes when they go away on vacation, etc.

LITS -Yes they are obsessed for sure. Many witnesses I know have conjured up all sorts of scenarios in which their faith will be tested. They create this huge monster and are just panic stricken at the prospect of maintaining their integrity.
My parents scared the living daylights out of us as children. They prepared us for kidnapping, rape, and torture. Then told us to rely on Jehovah.

in 6 months, my life has completely changed!.
i have chosen to be gay, i no longer suffer with guilty suicidal feelings, i have the most amazing boyfriend, and my parents and friends accept me for who i am.. i was informed today that a judicial comitee will be formed to disfellowship me.
i dont feel any kind of bitterness or sadness despite the fact that this is all i have known for 20 years and im about to lose some very close friends.. on the contrary, i feel fabulous!!!

earlier this evening i opened a box of my belongings which i knew contained some old photographs as i'd like to get all my old photos scanned into a digital format.
anyhoo, at the bottom of the box was a smaller box bearing some memories from my last year or two as a j-dub.
